Very Slow Page Loads

Description

Hi folks,

Well it works but boy is it SLOW. I checked sites that check pricvacy settings and it definitely is creating a circuit, and doing its job, but its very slow.

Is there need for port forwardding - seems like that sort of defeats the prupose though...

Thanks

Mark

Please see this FAQ entry regarding Tor's slowness.

If you're just running a client, then you don't have to forward any inbound ports. If you're running a server, then you might find this FAQ entry helpful. What are you trying to accomplish?

Wow, thanks for responding so quickly.

Well, I just want anonymous surfing.

I am using Vidalia, Tor and Privoxy.

Ok. So what told you that you needed to forward any ports?

DOn't know guess because I am behind a router and cable modem.

Also, I am using Firefox - and there is an option to set to SOCK v4, and V5. I read the docs on Tor and it says its set up for v 4a. Could this be the problem?

What problem?

For more information on setting up Firefox with Tor, see this entry. Also, this entry has more information on the different flavors of SOCKS.

Tor is just simply slow, compared to what you're used to.
